Today the nation of Quiltland declared its independance. An archipelago of several million islands, ranging from tiny outcrops of sewing to spacious art studios, this brand new land is already struggling to survive. Surrounded by hostile nations who claim that Quiltland is occupying land promised to them by the founding fathers of Woodwork and Mechanics, this tiny country is bravely establishing its legitimacy in the international community.
Ruled by a benign dictator Queen Helen it has a policy of open borders requiring only that would be immigrants produce evidence of quilting capacity or intention. Queen Helen has declared that she is not in favour of establishing a Westminster democracy by force and fears that her fragile dominion may fracture into internecine warfare if a representative sytem based on the traditional tribal divisions of handquilters, machine qulters, traditional quilters and art quilters is allowed to prevail.
Queen Helen said,
"I favour a policy of one quilter two opinions, after all, who has the time to finish all their UFOs and to make up their mind of constitutional issues?"
The Chronciles will be offering periodical commetary and lifestyle pieces from the world of Qulitland. As with any new nation the infrastrutcure is yet to be created and future posts may well deal with Internal Security ( to Quilt Police or not?), taxation, and citizenship. However Queen Helen says that her first priority is to have her nation recognised by as many UN nations as possible which can be achieved by a representative of each land leaving a comment below.
Until the next issue.
Go forth and quilt.
